The Angel Within Pt 2 by ~TLR3715:iconTLR3715:

A HUGE POND surrounded by TALL TREES. The MOON GLISTENS off the SMALL RIPPLES in the water caused by a SMALL WATERFALL on the far end. The water falls out of a BLUE STONE STRUCTURE. The water is clear enough that the STONES that make up the bottom of the pond are visible. Most of the stones are covered in a type of MOSS that GLOWS FLORESCENT BLUE in the moonlight.

CHRISTOPHER
...This is beautiful.

ANGELICA
I know. This is the perfect night to
be here too. The moon is so full.

The two walk to the edge of the water, and ANGELICA KNEELS on the ground.

SHE REACHES UP to grab Christopher’s sleeve, and pull him down.

ANGELICA
(whispering)
Come here.

CHRISTOPHER KNEELS at the water’s edge, next to Angelica.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
I always used to feel at peace here.
It helped me to think. I remember I
always looked so pretty when I looked
at my reflection in the water, and I
remember I used to feel so pretty
too... Just for that one moment.. and
I used to cry at that reflection,
because I was sad that I didn’t feel
like that all the time, and I wanted
so much for things to be better. For
my mother, and father to be happy...
For me to be happy... I was just a
child then. Those thoughts seem so
simple now...

ANGELICA LEANS OVER to look into the water.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
but I swear I cried so much into this
thing I probably added an inch of water,
and it’s weird.. those stones on the
bottom didn’t start to glow blue till
after I started...

Angelica pauses in mid sentence when she sees her reflection in the water.

THE REFLECTION is the same beautiful her, except ALL HER IMPERFECTIONS ARE GONE, and HER EYES HAVE A BLUE GLOW similar to when Christopher’s glow.

CHRISTOPHER notices the shock in Angelica’s face, and LEANS OVER TO LOOK as well.

HIS REFLECTION IS THE SAME in that all HIS IMPERFECTIONS VANISH, and HIS EYES GLOW BLUE.

HE LOOKS OVER at Angelica’s reflection, AND SMILES.

CHRISTOPHER
What?... Didn’t you know you were so
beautiful?

Angelica looks slowly over at Christopher.

ANGELICA
What does this mean?
CHRISTOPHER
(still smiling)
You’ll see.. We should probably get
going though, if we want to catch the
last train back into the city.

ANGELICA STARES at Christopher some more.

ANGELICA
...Yea.

ANGELICA gives one more GLANCE TO HER REFLECTION.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

THE TRAIN moves in the opposite direction from before, in the moonlit night.

CUT TO:

EXT. CITY BLOCK - NIGHT

The two are in front of Angelica’s apartment building.

ANGELICA
Well I had a great time tonight.

Christopher smiles.

CHRISTOPHER
I’m glad.

ANGELICA
What was that though?.. What I saw in
my reflection in the water... I looked
just like you.

CHRISTOPHER
No.. you looked better.

ANGELICA
(frustrated)
What was it?!

CHRISTOPHER KISSES ANGELICA softly on the forehead, and SPEAKS SOFTLY.

CHRISTOPHER
I said you’ll see, and you will..
Trust me.

THE FRUSTRATION DRAINS from Angelica’s face with Christopher’s words.

She looks up at him. HER EYES BURN WITH EMOTION.

ANGELICA
I don’t know why, but I don’t want to
say goodbye to you tonight. Do you...
want to come in for anything?

CHRISTOPHER smiles.

CHRISTOPHER
Wouldn’t your boyfriend mind a
strange guy around at night?

ANGELICA
...I don’t have a boyfriend at the
moment... But you know that don’t you?

CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
...Maybe, but why don’t you?

ANGELICA
Because.. I don’t allow myself to get
attached to people.

CHRISTOPHER
Why is that?

ANGELICA
I don’t know.. I’m afraid I guess. I
always... run away if I get too close
to someone.

CHRISTOPHER
...Let me tell you a story about a
girl I once watched over. I think it
might be helpful to you.

ANGELICA
...OK.

CHRISTOPHER
There once was a girl that was so
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
beautiful and so loving, she could
fall into the deepest of love. But she
found that with that love came pain.
Every time that love was broken, her
heart was torn out, and she felt the
worst she had ever felt in her life. A
pain so intense she vowed never to
fall in that deep of a love again. And
so she tried not to, but she couldn’t.
She had so much love to give that she
always fell into that same deep love,
and every time she felt that same pain.
So to stop the pain she stayed away
from the people who really cared about
her, because of the fear that someday
that love would once again be broken.
She began to look for people that
wouldn’t care about her.. that were
harder to fall in love with, but she
found herself falling in love with
them anyway, only she was now falling
in love with people who treated her
like she were worthless. Soon she
began to believe them, and she forgot
what it was like to be loved and happy.
Soon she hid herself from the world to
try and stop the pain.

ANGELICA LISTENS INTENSELY

ANGELICA
...And what happened to her?

CHRISTOPHER
Eventually she succeeded in sealing
her emotions from everyone else, and
because of that she felt the worst
misery imaginable. A misery reserved
for those that deny who they are.
Because she was love, and to deny that
love caused her to loose something
more valuable than anything in this
world... the memory of herself.

ANGELICA
...Why didn’t you help her?

CHRISTOPHER gets VERY INTENSE.

CHRISTOPHER
...I tried.

Christopher loses the emotion on his face.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
But to answer your other question, no
I won’t come up with you.

ANGELICA
...Why?

CHRISTOPHER
Because I need you to fall in love
with yourself, before you fall in love
with me.

ANGELICA LOOKS STUNNED.

CHRISTOPHER SMILES again at Angelica.

He TAKES HER HAND in his.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Have a good night’s rest Angelica.
I’ll be around tomorrow.

Christopher turns around, and begins to walk off.

Angelica looks down in thought, then looks back up at Christopher, but HE HAS VANISHED.

She stands there alone, THINKING.

TEARS BEGIN TO FALL from her eyes.

SHE WIPES THE TEARS AWAY with her hand, turns to the front door of her apartment building, and begins to let herself in.

CUT TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

ANGELICA ENTERS her bedroom slowly, and IN HEAVY THOUGHT.

She closes the door behind her, walks slowly over to her window, SPREADS HER ARMS on the sill, and GAZES OUT AT THE STARS.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - MORNING

THE MORNING SUN beams on Angelica’s face from her window. She has a look of PEACE, and FRESHNESS on her face as she sleeps.

Her eyes open up with NEW REALIZATION. Her expression shows she woke up in thought.

CUT TO:

EXT. CITY BLOCK - MORNING

ANGELICA EMERGES from her apartment building with FRESH WALKING CLOTHS. She walks quickly in deep thought.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN STATION - MORNING

ANGELICA BOARDS A TRAIN headed to her old town.

CUT TO:

EXT. TRAIN - MORNING

THE TRAIN in motion toward Angelica’s old town.

CUT TO:

INT. TRAIN - MORNING

ANGELICA GAZES out of the train window next to her as the SCENERY quickly moves by. She is in DEEP THOUGHT, and she TALKS in almost a BREATHLESS WHISPER.

ANGELICA
How could I have been so stupid?...
I’m sorry... I’m so sorry to myself.

She closes her eyes as TEARS ROLL DOWN HER CHEEKS.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ESTATE - LATE MORNING

Angelica walks past THE ESTATE she spent so much time at as a child. She gives it a LONG LOOK as she passes it by, then turns her sight foreword again to CONTINUE on her way.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ANGELICA’S OLD HOUSE - LATE MORNING

Angelica stands in front of a SMALL WHITE HOUSE.

SHE STARES AT IT.

She APPROACHES the front door,

PAUSES,

then RINGS THE DOOR BELL.

The door bell RINGS.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER comes to the door. She is a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN in her MID THIRTIES, and has similar physical characteristics to Angelica.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
...Angelica.. what are you doing here?

ANGELICA PAUSES, holding back emotion. She speaks in an EMOTIONLESS TONE.

ANGELICA
Hi mom.. I was thinking, and I need to
know something.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
...What?

ANGELICA
Why did you just kick me out, and not
want to have anything to do with me?

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
(sighs)
Because... you were getting to be too
much.

The EMOTION BREWS within Angelica.

ANGELICA
...Was I really that bad to you?

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
You were a little wild, and I really
didn’t have the patience to deal with
it anymore.

ANGELICA
...How could you do something like
that?

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
(startled)
What do you mean?

ANGELICA
(blurting with emotion)
..You just kicked me out! You didn’t
even bother to notice I was feeling
bad about life. You never took the
time to ask me what was bothering me,
even when I was little, like you
didn’t even care! Like you didn’t care
what me, your own daughter was feeling,
or going through...

Angelica stares at her mother. The EMOTION grows like A FIRE in her eyes.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
I would NEVER do that to you! You were
my mother, and I loved you, and I only
wanted you to be happy. That’s all I
wanted as a child, because I cared
about you with my whole heart... I
never got that back from you, and you
know what.. that made me feel so
worthless growing up.

Angelica’s mother OPENS HER MOUTH in shock.

Angelica regains her control, and begins to calm down.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
But I realized something yesterday.
...I deserved that love I wanted so
much to get from you. I deserved it,
because all I’ve ever done in my life
is give love without ever getting any
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
back, and it’s not my fault if the
people I’ve given it to haven’t
appreciated it.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER seems UPSET at this point.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
(calm)
You made me feel worthless all my life,
and I realize now, that is far from
the truth... But that still doesn’t
mean I don’t love you... and that I
still don’t wish you happiness.
Because I realize how hard it is for
most people to give themselves when
they’re not happy.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
...I’m sorry I made you feel that way.
I really am... I just couldn’t care for
you the way I should have. I never
knew... how.

ANGELICA
And I forgive you...

Angelica pauses, STARING at her mother.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
I have to go, but if that should ever
change, and you ever need a daughter in
your heart... I’ll always be here. I
want to make sure you know that.

ANGELICA’S MOTHER is STUNNED, almost FROZEN from Angelica’s words.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
(almost with tears in her eyes)
...Don’t you have anything to say?

ANGELICA’S MOTHER
(with sympathy)
...I don’t know what to say?

Angelica looks at her SPEECHLESS MOTHER for a moment, slowly TURNS, and WALKS AWAY.

DISSOLVE TO:

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. GARDEN - AFTERNOON

Angelica cries hard, as she walks down one of the beautiful
BRICK PATHWAYS.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. GARDEN - TWILIGHT

Angelica stares at an EXOTIC arrangement of flowers growing
on the side of a path as TEARS slowly roll down her cheeks.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. GARDEN - NIGHT

Angelica leans against an old CEMENT PILLAR.

She looks up at THE MOON in deep thought.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. TRAIN - NIGHT

THE TRAIN heads toward the city.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Angelica is now DRESSED FOR THE EVENING.

She is looking out her window with her arms on the sill,
STARING out at THE STAR FILLED SKY.

She slowly climbs in her bed, and lies on her back, HER EYES
FIXED on the ceiling in deep thought.

ANGELICA
(whispering to herself)
...It’s funny I can feel you. I always
have though. I just know it’s you now.

SHE PAUSES

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
(falling asleep)
You were always there... always with
me... You were who I talked to when I
was a child.
Angelica CLOSES HER EYES, and SMILES as she drifts off into
sleep.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - MORNING

Light, beams on Angelica’s face, and it is now WEDNESDAY
morning.

Angelica lays with the same smile she fell asleep with as if
she hadn’t moved at all during the night.

Her eyes open slowly, and she LOOKS OVER TO HER LEFT.

ANGELICA
Christopher?

CHRISTOPHER IS LAYING NEXT TO HER with his head propped up
with his arm, and a big smile on his face.

CHRISTOPHER
Good morning beautiful.

ANGELICA ISN’T STARTLED by the unexpected presence of
Christopher. She seems even MORE CALM AND RELAXED with the
realization that he is in the room with her.
She talks to him as if THEY HAD BEEN FRIENDS FOREVER.

ANGELICA
I could feel you yesterday. You were
with me, weren’t you?

CHRISTOPHER
Where do you think I go when you don’t
see me?

ANGELICA
I know that now. You’ve been with me
my whole life haven’t you?... Why?

CHRISTOPHER
Because there’s no place I’d rather
be.

ANGELICA MOVES CLOSER to Christopher on the bed, and gently
FEELS HIS ARM with her hand.

SHE LOOKS INTO HIS EYES with a new expression as if SEEING
HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME.
ANGELICA
We’ve known each other before.

CHRISTOPHER
Yes.

ANGELICA MOVES CLOSER to Christopher, until HER FACE IS
RIGHT NEXT TO HIS.

ANGELICA
...Were we in love?

ANGELICA PAUSES

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Are you... My angel?

Angelica is just about to kiss Christopher, when JOSH BARGES
IN.

JOSH
Hey Angelica, Wall Street is on fire!
It’s on the news right now!

The two quickly look over at Josh, CHRISTOPHER WITH ABSOLUTE
SERIOUSNESS in his eyes.

Josh notices Christopher.

JOSH
...Who are you?

Christopher and Angelica begin to get up, and make their way
to the living room where the TV is.

Christopher takes Josh’s hand, and shakes it.

CHRISTOPHER
I’m Christopher, nice to meet you.

JOSH
(with confusion)
...Yea same here, I’m Josh.

CUT TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM - MORNING

ALL OF ANGELICA’S ROOM MATES are HUDDLED AROUND THE TV in
the living room.
Josh, Angelica, and Christopher ENTER.

The man with stringy hair looks at Christopher with
confusion on his face as Christopher passes him by.

Josh has a seat on the floor in front of the couch. ANGELICA
and CHRISTOPHER stand behind it, and look on.

THE TV shows an ANCHORMAN sitting in front of a news desk.

ANCHORMAN
We now bring you to senior stock
market analyst William Blackwel, who
is at the New York Stock Exchange,
where apparently a fire has broken
out... Will?

The TV then switches to WILLIAM BLACKWEL, a YOUNG, CLEAN-CUT
man, standing in the NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE building.

In the background, FIRE, and THICK BLACK SMOKE can be seen
on the stock exchange floor.

SCATTERED PEOPLE rush to find exits.

WATER from the ceiling sprinkler system, RAINS DOWN.
William talks loudly over the COMMOTION IN THE BACKGROUND.

WILL
Thank you. As you can see from behind
me, a fire has started in the building.

ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
Will, when did the fire start?

WILL
The fire started a short while ago. I
would say no more than 10 minutes, but
already you can see that the fire has
grown out of control.

ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
(concerned)
Is anyone trapped inside?

WILL
They started to evacuate the building
when the fire first started, and most
people have exited to safety, however,
there are still some people left in
WILL (CONT’D)
the building.

ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
Will, shouldn’t you be evacuating,
yourself?

WILL
Yes, but luckily we are very close to
an exit, so I’m not in any danger at
the moment.. The fire started while I
was having a discussion on how the
events in Washington earlier this week
have affected the economy, and we just
couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get
live footage of this.

ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
Speaking of which, the voice in
Washington mentioned a fire. Do
you think this could be an act of
God?

WILL
I don’t know, but it does seem eerie
that perhaps in this day and age, we
do value money more than God as a
society.

TWO FIREMEN enter the shot. One POINTS with his finger.

POINTING FIREMAN
We’re going to have to ask you to
evacuate the building through that
exit over there.

WILL
(to the fireman)
Of course.
(back to the news camera)
Well it looks like it’s no longer safe
to broadcast from here. We’re going to
have to give things back to you at the
news desk.

THE TV cuts back to the NEWS DESK.

ANCHORMAN
Of course.. We hope you, and everyone
else in the building can evacuate
ANCHORMAN (CONT’D)
safely.

ANGELICA and her roommates have a look of ABSOLUTE FEAR on
their faces.

CHRISTOPHER STARES at the TV with a STERN, EMOTIONLESS
EXPRESSION.

ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
We will be back after a short
commercial break, and then we will
bring you more from Broad Street in
Manhattan, where again, a fire has
broken out in the New York Stock
Exchange building.

ANGELICA
(to Christopher)
Christopher, what was that?!

CHRISTOPHER
...I don’t know.

ALL THE ROOMMATES TURN TO LOOK at the unfamiliar voice.

STEVE
(to Christopher)
Who the hell are you?

ANGELICA
(quickly)
His name is Christopher. He’s a friend
of mine.

MAN WITH STRINGY HAIR
(with a drunken smile)
Oh shit, he’s real? I thought I was
seeing things again.

CHRISTOPHER
(to Angelica)
Can I see you outside?

Angelica looks at Christopher.

ANGELICA
...Sure.

CUT TO:
EXT. CITY BLOCK - MORNING

ANGELICA and CHRISTOPHER stand underneath A TREE, outside
Angelica’s apartment building.

Christopher leans with his back against it, and Angelica
leans next to him, on her left shoulder.

ANGELICA
So what do you think?

CHRISTOPHER
I don’t know... It could still be just
a coincidence.

ANGELICA
(with annoyance)
Come on?

CHRISTOPHER
...Yea I guess you’re right... I just
wish I knew where to start.. I still
have no idea what I’m supposed to do to
stop this.

CHRISTOPHER looks as if he JUST HAD A THOUGHT.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...Do you remember any of your dreams
from last night?

Angelica looks puzzled.

ANGELICA
I don’t know... Why?

CHRISTOPHER
Well.. ever wake up from a dream that
was so real and emotional, it affected
your whole day?

ANGELICA
Yea, everyone does.

CHRISTOPHER
Well sometimes there’s a reason you
have those... It’s another way we can
help guide people. So.. do you think
you could try and remember any?

Angelica thinks for a moment.

ANGELICA
Oh yea! I remember one. It was right
before I woke up too.

CHRISTOPHER
Well.. What was it about?

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. FIELD - DAY

ANGELICA’S DREAM as she describes it in her dialogue.

ANGELICA
(slowly)
I remember it was a sunny day with
white fluffy clouds. I was walking
barefoot through a field of flowers
along a small dirt road. There were
white doves and butterflies flying all
over the place... The road led to a
small white church.

CUT TO:

INT. WHITE CHURCH - DAY

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
...And I remember I went inside, and
saw all the people praying in the pews.
They all turned to look at me and smiled
as if they were happy to see me.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. CITY BLOCK - MORNING

ANGELICA
...And that’s when I woke up.

CHRISTOPHER IS SMILING at Angelica.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
...What?

CHRISTOPHER
You always have such vivid dreams.

ANGELICA
...You used to see my dreams?

CHRISTOPHER
(still smiling)
...Maybe.

Angelica looks at him for a moment.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
But you said a church, huh?

ANGELICA
Yep.

CHRISTOPHER
Well, why don’t we start there, then?

ANGELICA
Do you really think that dream is
trying to tell us something?

CHRISTOPHER
Could be.. We’ll find out.
CUT TO:

EXT. CHURCH - LATE MORNING

Angelica and Christopher stand outside THE SAME CHURCH FROM
THE BEGINNING. THE PARKING LOT is filled with cars.

CHRISTOPHER
It looks like they’re having some sort
of mass. There are a lot of cars
parked here.

ANGELICA
So what should we do?

Christopher thinks.

CHRISTOPHER
Why don’t you go inside, and find out
what kind of a mass it is?

ANGELICA
...You don’t want to see for yourself?

CHRISTOPHER
I don’t think they’d like it if they
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
saw me in there again. I’ll just wait
here, and you can tell me what’s going
on later.

ANGELICA
...Well all right, I’ll see you in a
bit.

ANGELICA OPENS THE LARGE DOOR to the church, and ENTERS.

CUT TO:

INT. CHURCH - LATE MORNING

Angelica slowly walks into the church, and looks around.

It is almost FILLED TO CAPACITY, except for a few empty
seats scattered about. The people seem RESTLESS and
IRRITATED.

In the front of the church, FATHER JACOB stands behind THE
PODIUM.

A YOUNG MAN within the crowd, speaks with frustration.

MAN IN PEW
(to Father Jacob)
Father Jacob, what can you tell us
about the messenger in Washington, and
the fire today?

FATHER JACOB appears WEAK and DEFEATED. His face looks
WASHED. He speaks WEARILY as if he has detached himself from
his reality.

FATHER JACOB
...Nothing.

SILENCE IN THE CHURCH

ANGELICA carefully takes a seat next to an OLD WOMAN, near
the back of the church.

MAN IN PEW
Father Jacob, we need guidance. How
will we be saved? How can we be
forgiven by God?

FATHER JACOB
...I am in no position to give any
guidance on such matters.

Father Jacob stops, LOOKS OVER THE CHURCH, and SADNESS seems
to fill his eyes.

FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
...I held a mass today because I knew
people would want to pray after the
events of this week... But this will be
my last mass.

The people in the church GASP.

ANGELICA looks on with intrigue.

FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
I will be leaving to commit myself
for my inner demons tomorrow, before
something terrible happens.

THE CROWD ERUPTS.

MAN IN PEW
WHAT?!

FATHER JACOB
That man that disrupted our mass last
Sunday WAS an angel. He helped me to
realize that I am not fit to be a
priest.

In the church, some look on with SHOCKED EXPRESSIONS, some
GASP, others TALK LOUDLY to the person next to them.

ANGELICA’S MOUTH OPENS in SHOCK, and she turns to look
toward the door.

CUT TO:

EXT. CHURCH - LATE MORNING

CHRISTOPHER leans against THE DOOR FRAME of the church,
STARING up at the sky in thought.

AN OLDER BLACK MAN with a GRAY BEARD, WADDLES over slowly
with the assistance of an OLD WOODEN CANE.

CHRISTOPHER NOTICES the man, and slowly looks over.
OLD MAN
You’re that man that claimed he was
an angel last Sunday, aren’t you?

CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Yes.

OLD MAN
...I believe you.

CHRISTOPHER
(shocked)
You do?

OLD MAN
Yep. What you said last Sunday, were
the only words spoken that ever made
sense in that church... I’m not here
to listen to Father Jacob preach this
time. I’m here to pray with my friends
that everything turns out all right
with what’s going on.

THE OLD MAN opens the door to the church.

OLD MAN (CONT’D)
...Thank you for those words, angel.

The old man ENTERS THE CHURCH.

CHRISTOPHER STARES at the LARGE WOODEN DOOR in disbelief as
they SLOWLY CLOSE.

After a moment the doors FLY OPEN. It STARTLES CHRISTOPHER.

IT’S ANGELICA.

ANGELICA
Christopher, I think you should come
inside!

CUT TO:

INT. CHURCH - LATE MORNING

Father Jacob and the man in the pew are still talking.

MAN IN PEW
Then who will help us through this
MAN IN PEW (CONT’D)
time of judgment?!

FATHER JACOB
Why don’t you pray for that angel to
return, and ask him?

Father Jacob PAUSES, and looks toward the back of the
church.

FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
(with disbelief)
...And there he is.

THE PEOPLE TURN AS ONE to witness CHRISTOPHER following
ANGELICA into the church.

FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
My time here is over. I would only
hope that this angel would be kind
enough to provide guidance for all of
you here today. Will you do that
Christopher?

CHRISTOPHER
(with sympathy)
Of course.

Christopher walks up the center isle to THE PODIUM.

FATHER JACOB
(to Christopher)
...I did mean well in the beginning.

CHRISTOPHER
(to Father Jacob)
I know you did, and you made a good
choice to get help before it was too
late.

Father Jacob walks slowly to a SMALL DOOR off to the side.
He looks down at the ground WITH SHAME as he walks.

MAN IN PEW
Are you really an angel of God?

ANGELICA takes a seat again and watches Christopher
carefully as if SUPPORTING HIM with her presence.

CHRISTOPHER
What I am is irrelevant, what matters
are all of you.

MAN IN PEW
What does that mean, and why is God
judging us?

CHRISTOPHER
It means that you have the power to
answer your own questions. When the
messenger appeared, what did it’s
message inspire? ...Fear?... Anger?...
Hatred?... Judgment?...

THE PEOPLE in the church SOFTLY agree by NODDING, and saying
various forms of “yes”.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Is this what you worshipped your whole
lives... all those negative feelings
brought to us by that messenger? Is
that what is in your hearts, or is it
something much greater?

CHRISTOPHER PAUSES, and LOOKS OVER THE CHURCH.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
The only advice I can give you today
is to ask yourself if you’ve really
ever done something so terrible that
you no longer deserve life. Then ask
yourself, would anything good ever
threaten to take that life away...
The answer to those questions are
all you really need.

SILENCE in the church as they STARE at CHRISTOPHER.

CHRISTOPHER slowly walks to the back of the church.
EVERYONE’S HEAD FOLLOWS HIM.

He looks at ANGELICA as he passes her, and she gets up to
follow him out.

After he has left, the people TURN THEIR HEADS BACK as one,
and SIT IN SILENCE.

Then they turn to each other, and begin to TALK LOUDLY.

CUT TO:

EXT. CITY BLOCK - LATE MORNING

CHRISTOPHER and ANGELICA walk side by side.

ANGELICA
Why didn’t you just tell them that
the messenger wasn’t real?

CHRISTOPHER
...This thing Creates a few
abnormalities or “miracles, and
everyone believes unconditionally in
it. People are better than that, I
know it. They know when something
isn’t right. They just have to look
past what’s right in front of them,
and find the deeper truth.

ANGELICA
So you want people to find out the
truth on their own?

CHRISTOPHER
Yes, because I have faith in them that
they will.

ANGELICA
...So what’s next?

CHRISTOPHER
Let’s take a look at the news, and
find out how people are reacting
to this whole thing.

CUT TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - AFTERNOON

CHRISTOPHER STARES INTENTLY at the TV screen.

ANGELICA pours a soda in the ATTACHED KITCHEN.

ANGELICA
(loudly to Christopher)
Do you want anything, like a drink
or something?

CHRISTOPHER
(still staring)
No, I’m fine thanks... Where is
everyone by the way?

ANGELICA
I think they all went to our friend
Jillian’s house. They’ll be there for
a few days getting smashed, I’m sure.

CHRISTOPHER
Why didn’t you go with them?

ANGELICA
...Because I didn’t want to.

ON THE TV a NEWSWOMAN speaks.

NEWSWOMAN
In response to the recent events in
Washington and New York City, most
religious organizations are reporting
an overwhelming increase in
participation.

THE TV switches to a shot of a church filled with people,
then to a group of people WAITING OUTSIDE of it.

A YOUNG MALE REPORTER holds a MICROPHONE while standing next
to A THIN OLD MAN within the crowd.

MALE REPORTER
(to the thin old man)
So sir, what has brought you to this
church today?

THIN OLD MAN
Well, I think it’s pretty clear what
the lord wants from us, so I’m here to
pray for forgiveness and re-find God.

MALE REPORTER
Were you religious before the events
this week?

THIN OLD MAN
...Somewhat, but not as much as I
should be.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - LATE AFTERNOON

CHRISTOPHER STILL STARES at the TV INTENTLY. ANGELICA stands
behind the couch, LEANING on it with her arms. She also
STARES with INTEREST.

ON THE TV, TWO MEN have a discussion. GEORGE on THE RIGHT is
a YOUNGER man with BROWN HAIR. ED on THE LEFT is OLDER with
GRAY HAIR.

GEORGE
(to the camera)
Welcome to a special edition of the
Ed and George show. I’m George, and
this is my co-host Ed.

ED
(smiling)
Co-host my ass!

GEORGE
(also smiling)
On today’s show we’re discussing the
effects the weeks events have had on
the economy...

GEORGE (CONT’D)
(to Ed)
Ed what do you think?

ED
(jokingly)
Oh I think it’s pretty safe to say
the events have definitely had an
effect.

GEORGE
(jokingly)
Oh come on, it’s only a small fire.

ED
(laughing)
Yea, a small fire that burnt half the
building up...

ANGELICA has an expression of DEEP THOUGHT.

ANGELICA
How could they joke on TV during a
time like this?
CHRISTOPHER
...I think it’s a good thing to have
some humor during bad times.

BACK ON THE TV

ED
Luckily I heard there were no deaths
or injuries from it.

GEORGE
Well that’s good to hear.

ED
However, of course it was serious
enough for trading to stop until
further notice, and when it does I
think we’re going to be in for quite
a drop across the board.

GEORGE
Indeed, consumer spending dropped
drastically even before the fire
today... What do you think? People not
shopping at the malls, and buying cars
due to the predicted apocalypse?

ED
(jokingly)
...Could be.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

CHRISTOPHER STILL STARES INTENTLY. The BLUE GLOW of the TV
lights the NOW DARK living room.

ANGELICA walks by Christopher, and stops next to him from
behind THE COUCH.

ANGELICA
Hey, I’m going to bed.

CHRISTOPHER
OK, sleep well.

Angelica looks at Christopher, SMILES, and WALKS OFF toward
her room.

YOUNG ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
Again if you are just tuning in. A
fire broke out this morning in the New
York Stock Exchange, causing
substantial damage to the building, in
a blaze that took firefighters hours
to extinguish, leaving us with the
question... Was this an act of God?

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - LATE NIGHT

ANGELICA lays in her bed AWAKE, staring at the ceiling.

SHE LOOKS slowly over toward her window.

With INTRIGUE on her face, she gets out of her bed,
APPROACHES the window and tries to look up.

SHE OPENS IT, and climbs onto the FIRE ESCAPE.

CUT TO:

EXT. FIRE ESCAPE - LATE NIGHT

Angelica slowly climbs the fire escape up toward THE ROOF.

CUT TO:

EXT. ROOF - LATE NIGHT

ANGELICA PEEKS over the ROOF LEDGE as she makes her way up.

She notices CHRISTOPHER sitting on the roof with his back
resting against a SMALL BRICK CHIMNEY, STARING up at THE
SKY.

ANGELICA SLOWLY and QUIETLY makes her way over to
CHRISTOPHER.

ANGELICA
What are you doing up here?

Christopher slowly looks over at Angelica, puts a finger to
his face, and SMILES.

CHRISTOPHER
Shhhhh.

ANGELICA leans over next to Christopher.

ANGELICA
(whispering)
What?

CHRISTOPHER
(softly)
I’m trying to listen, and think.

ANGELICA
What are you listening to?

CHRISTOPHER
Why don’t you sit down next to me?

ANGELICA sits next to Christopher, with her back to the
CHIMNEY.

CHRISTOPHER LOOKS UP again. ANGELICA follows Christopher’s
eyes up toward the sky.

The two GAZE out at the TWINKLING STARS.

CHRISTOPHER
I can hear the prayers of the people
when it’s quiet like this.

ANGELICA
What people?

CHRISTOPHER
...Everyone.

ANGELICA
Who are they praying to?

CHRISTOPHER
God, Allah, Jesus... All sorts of
things and people... We always hear
their thoughts first though, because
we’re so close to the people we watch
over, but I can hear them all tonight.

ANGELICA
Thoughts?

CHRISTOPHER
Thoughts... prayers... same thing.

ANGELICA
...And what are YOU thinking about?

CHRISTOPHER
I’m wondering how I can help them. I
still don’t know how to stop this
thing.

ANGELICA THINKS.

ANGELICA
...What are they praying for?

CHRISTOPHER
...They’re afraid. Afraid for
themselves that they won’t be forgiven
for the things they’ve done. Afraid
for their children, and what will
happen to them. Afraid for the
world, and what will happen to
everyone as a whole... They’re praying
for forgiveness, and promising they’ll
change their ways... most of them
don’t need to change their ways though.

CHRISTOPHER takes a moment to GAZE more at the STARS.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...A few though are praying that
more people will realize the messenger
is not what it says it is...

CHRISTOPHER SMILES

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
A lot of them are from that church.

ANGELICA SMILES

ANGELICA
What you said must have really made an
impression... They believe you.

A look of REALIZATION falls over CHRISTOPHER’S FACE.

CHRISTOPHER
...Maybe that’s it, what I need to do.
I need to get to the people somehow,
and help them find the truth.

ANGELICA
How are you going to do that?

CHRISTOPHER
I’m not sure yet... but I have an idea.

CUT TO:

INT. LEON CHANDERS STUDIO - AFTERNOON

A TV PREACHER stands in front of his ENERGETIC STUDIO
AUDIENCE.

HIS SET decorated ALL IN WHITE, including A LAMP, CHAIR, and
WHITE FUR RUG.

CAMERAS and LIGHTS, EVERYWHERE.

His name is LEON CHANDERS, a HANDSOME MIDDLE-AGED MAN,
dressed in an expensive WHITE SUITE to match his WHITE
SHOES, and WHITE HAIR. He wears a SMALL MICROPHONE, clipped
to his suite.

He speaks QUICKLY and with ENERGY.

LEON
People of America we are faced with a
crisis today! The lights in the sky
last week. A messenger of God appears
in Washington telling us of three
miracles, and prophesying an
apocalypse... One of those miracles
involved a fire... A fire broke out
today, burning the New York stock
exchange to the ground.

LEON BRISKLY WALKS AROUND his small set, and looks over the
crowd.

LEON (CONT’D)
I don’t know about you, but I’m scared.
We’re all scared, everyone’s scared...
and they should be. I’m scared for
myself, Leon Chanders! I’m scared for
my family! And I want to know why God
is angry with us!

The CROWS ERUPTS with CHEERS and APPLAUSE.

LEON (CONT’D)
(raising his hand)
Wait, Wait!, now calm down!... calm
down.

THE CROWS SETTLES.

LEON (CONT’D)
(softly)
I had those questions... but then I
realized... I know why God is angry.
I think it’s obvious.

LEON begins to TALK QUICKLY again.

LEON (CONT’D)
Pick up any newspaper from before any
of this started. What did it say?
Murders, rapes, divorces, robberies,
beatings, abortions, gay marriages,
the list goes on and on... That’s why
people! It’s obvious! God is angry
because we as a society have gone to
hell!

THE CROWD ERUPTS AGAIN.

LEON RAISES HIS HAND.

THE CROWD QUIETS.

LEON (CONT’D)
I take a walk outside today, and I
hear offensive music playing on the
radio! I see near naked women having
sex on the TV, and I hear about kids
dressed like demons in the schools!....
OH INDEED WHAT A GREAT ERA WE ALL LIVE
IN!

THE CROWD ERUPTS again.

A VOICE yells out OVER THE CROWD.

VOICE
Oh it’s not that bad!

LEON notices the voice.

LEON PUTS HIS HAND UP.
THE CROWD QUIETS.

LEON
I’m sorry I thought I heard someone
disagree over here. Was I hearing
things?

CHRISTOPHER SITS in an ISLE SEAT near THE BACK of the studio
audience.

CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
You heard right Mr. Chanders. I said
it’s not that bad.

LEON pauses in THOUGHT for just a SPLIT SECOND.

LEON
Excuse me son, but were you not paying
attention to the words I just spoke?
You must not have, to say something
like that... Maybe those long hairs
got stuck in your ears.

THE CROWD LAUGHS BRIEFLY

CHRISTOPHER
No I heard every word you said, and I
still say the world isn’t as bad as you
say it is.

LEON
...Son, come down here. I want to know
who you are.

CHRISTOPHER gets up, and walks down the isle, his EYES
LOCKED on LEON like a PREDATOR WAITING TO POUNCE on its
prey.

LEON puts his arm around CHRISTOPHER once he is next to him.

LEON
What is your name?

CHRISTOPHER
My name is Christopher, and I’m an
angel.

LEON SMILES while the CROWD EXPLODES INTO LAUGHTER.

LEON
...An angel you say?... Well I’ve
always wanted to meet one of those.

LAUGHTER ENSUES AGAIN

CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Well today’s your lucky day I guess.

LEON’S EXPRESSION CHANGES.

LEON
(serious)
So tell me “angel” why isn’t the world
so bad?

CHRISTOPHER
An apocalypse is something that
effects everyone, and everything. Look
at your audience here today. They’re
not murderers, they’re not rapists.
Do they really deserve to be judged
the same as those that are?

Christopher turns to the crowd.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
(to the crowd)
Are you really going to sit here, and
clap for a man that says you need to
be judged. Are you guilty of anything
that serious?... When I go outside I
see fathers hugging their children. I
hear beautiful, artistic music playing
on the radio, and I see people
becoming more open minded toward those
that are different... Oh what a great
era we live in.

SILENCE IN THE CROWD.

LEON STARES at Christopher.

LEON
...All right fella, you’ve disrupted
my show long enough. Please take your
seat.

Christopher does not move.
LEON (CONT’D)
(into his microphone)
Security, I want him out of here!

CHRISTOPHER
No need, I’m already leaving.

The audience watches Christopher as he walks toward the SIDE
EXIT.

HE STOPS AT THE DOOR.

CHRISTOPHER
If you really believe that society as
a whole is guilty of what was
described by that supposed messenger,
maybe you should judge yourself as
well! That’s a nice Porsche you have
parked outside! Tell these people in
the audience that you didn’t buy it
with the donation money for charity,
you solicit at the end of every show!

CHRISTOPHER EXITS

The audience stares at Leon with COLLECTIVE ANGER.

LEON looks quickly at the audience.

A WAVE OF FEAR comes over his face.

CUT TO:

EXT. LEON CHANDERS STUDIO - AFTERNOON

A BRIGHT SUNNY afternoon.

ANGELICA leans against the wall next to the EXIT DOOR.

SHE SMILES when she sees CHRISTOPHER.

ANGELICA
So how did it go?

CHRISTOPHER
I’m really not sure.

Christopher smiles.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...But it was kinda fun.
Christopher and Angelica begin to walk off.

ANGELICA
So what do we do next?

CHRISTOPHER
That’s a good question. We really don’t
have a lot going for us... Except for
one thing.

ANGELICA
What’s that?

CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
...It’s not raining.

CUT TO:

EXT. CITY STREET - AFTERNOON

Angelica and Christopher walk together in a DOWNTOWN area.

MANY PEOPLE walk by and crowd the street.

ANGELICA
...So, do you think what you did
today will reach a lot of people?

CHRISTOPHER
To be honest not really. People react
to things differently, but... I’m sure
I got some people thinking.

A SHADOW falls over Christopher and Angelica.

IT ENVELOPES the entire city block.

Christopher and Angelica LOOK UP.

GRAY CLOUDS cover the once blue sky.

PEOPLE IN THE STREET look up collectively.

CHRISTOPHER and ANGELICA STARE at the clouds.

CHRISTOPHER
...This can’t be good.

Like someone TURING ON A FAUCET, a VICIOUS DOWNPOUR ERUPTS.
IT DRENCHES EVERYTHING.

THE SOUND of millions of raindrops DEAFENS.

PEOPLE RUN for shelter, THEIR CLOTHS SOAKED.

CHRISTOPHER YELLS through the sound of the rain.

CHRISTOPHER
...What time is it?!

Angelica looks at her watch.

ANGELICA
It’s exactly twelve, noon!

Christopher pauses for a second.

CHRISTOPHER
We should find some shelter!

ANGELICA
Why don’t we go in that store over
there?!

Christopher turns to look at the ELECTRONICS STORE behind
them.

CUT TO:

INT. ELECTRONICS STORE - AFTERNOON

The store bell RINGS as Angelica and Christopher enter
through the front door.

They are SOAKED.

The water dripping from their cloths quickly creates a LARGE
PUDDLE.

A STORE KEEPER stands behind the FRONT COUNTER.

STORE KEEPER
It’s really commin down out there,
huh?

Christopher and Angelica stare at the storekeeper, THE WATER
still DRIPPING from their hair.

CHRISTOPHER
...Yep.

Angelica looks over at the TV’S FOR SALE.

ANGELICA
(to Christopher)
Hey, let’s see if we can get the news
on one of those TV’s over there.

Christopher follows Angelica over to the TV’s, THEIR FEET
SLOSHING, and they stop at one of the BIG SCREENS.

Angelica changes the channel to a news station.

On the TV an ANCHORMAN sits at a news desk.

ANCHORMAN
We bring you now to senior
meteorologist Brian Wills, with a
special weather report.

The TV switches to a shot of weatherman BRIAN WILLS a CLEAN-
CUT man with BROWN HAIR. He stands in front of a DOPPLER
RADAR DEPICTION OF THE GLOBE.

THE GLOBE is COMPLETELY COVERED IN GREEN.

BRIAN
Thank you. We have quite the weather
phenomenon here. This is not a
computer error you see here behind me.
...The entire world is covered in
precipitation. This is not something
I’ve ever seen in my life, or
something that should even be
possible.

Christopher and Angelica’s JAWS DROP in awe.

BRIAN (O.C.)
Even though I’m reporting this to you,
I truly cannot believe this is
happening.

CHRISTOPHER
...Oh my God.

Christopher slowly walks over to the FRONT WINDOW, with a
look of SHOCK on his face.
ANGELICA follows him.

THE RAIN FALLS MERCILESSLY outside the window.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ELECTRONICS STORE - AFTERNOON - LATER

Christopher and Angelica are now SITTING ON THE LARGE WINDOW
SILL, their CLOTHS DRY.

Like someone TURNING OFF A FAUCET, the rain stops.

The outside, LIGHTS UP with NEW SUNLIGHT.

CHRISTOPHER
...What time is it?

Angelica checks her watch.

ANGELICA
It’s 1:00.

CHRISTOPHER
...Exactly one hour.

CUT TO:

EXT. ROOF - NIGHT

CHRISTOPHER sits alone against the CHIMNEY, STARING up at
the stars.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

ANGELICA sits on the couch, watching the TV with a WORRIED
EXPRESSION.

ON THE TV

An OLDER ANCHORMAN sits behind a desk.

A news clip of a RIVER OVERFLOWING and FLOODING A STREET,
plays behind him.

OLDER ANCHORMAN
Many parts of the word are reporting
major flooding after the unusual
OLDER ANCHORMAN (CONT’D)
rainstorm today...

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ROOF - NIGHT

CHRISTOPHER looks worried.

HE CLOSES HIS EYES, and EXHALES with his face still pointed
toward the stars.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Angelica stares intently.

ON THE TV

A METEOROLOGIST stands in front of a WEATHER MAP. THE GREEN
COVERING the map slowly FADES AWAY.

METEOROLOGIST
As quickly as it came, the rain clouds
disappeared at approximately 1:00 in
the afternoon. We still have no
scientific explanation for this...

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ROOF - NIGHT

Christopher gets up, and begins to walk toward THE ROOF’S
EDGE.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Angelica lies on the couch.

ON THE TV

A MAN sits at a news desk, facing a WOMAN and another MALE
NEWS CORRESPONDENT.

MAN
(to the other two)
Today’s events have been truly
unbelievable, and just moments ago
we heard the president address the
nation. What were your thoughts on
that?

WOMAN
I was surprised actually. The
president didn’t try to quell our fear,
and tell us to go about out our
business, like most thought he would.
Instead he basically delivered a message
to pray, and ask for forgiveness.

MALE CORRESPONDENT
Indeed, it was a eerie speech, that
really did nothing to inspire any type
of hope. I even heard that he went
into hiding somewhere away from
Washington with the rest of his
administration shortly after the
delivery of the speech.

Angelica’s worried expression grows.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ROOF - NIGHT

Christopher looks out over the ROOF EDGE.

A TEAR falls from his eye.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Angelica still lies on the couch.

ON THE TV

GEORGE and ED are in the middle of their show.

GEORGE
So what do you think about all this?

ED
I think it’s all bull.
GEORGE
How could you say that, after the rain
today?

ED
Oh don’t get me wrong, something’s
obviously going on. I just don’t think
it’s gonna lead to the end of the
world.

GEORGE
...You still don’t take this seriously
after all that’s happened?

ED
It just doesn’t feel right... I don’t
know, but something isn’t right with
that messenger that appeared.

Ed pauses for a second.

ED (CONT’D)
To be honest the only thing that
really made sense to me were the words
of that crazy guy who disrupted Leon
Chanders show today, claiming to be
an angel.

Angelica’s eyes open wide.

She slowly gets up to a sitting position.

GEORGE
You have to be kidding me.

ED
No I’m serious... Hell I’d love to
interview him on the show, if it were
possible.

CUT TO:

EXT. ROOF - NIGHT

Angelica peeks over the roof from the fire escape.

CHRISTOPHER is still standing at the roof edge.

Angelica makes her way over to Christopher.

ANGELICA
Hey you, what’s wrong?

CHRISTOPHER
Hi... Nothing really, it’s just that
it doesn’t seem like I got to many
people today... It’s getting worse.
This thing is obviously more powerful
than I thought, and most people
believe whole heartily in it from what
happened today... I still don’t have
any idea what it’s really capable of,
or how I’m going to stop it.

Angelica thinks.

ANGELICA
Why is it so important that people not
believe in it?

CHRISTOPHER
...Because... The world can be what
you make it sometimes, and if enough
people believe deeply in what was said
by it... Then they could give it the
power to act out what it described.

FEAR comes over Angelica’s face.

CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
(in thought)
...It’s a scary thought, and I really
don’t know if I can stop it.

ANGELICA
Christopher?! I thought you said that
wasn’t possible! That this thing
wasn’t capable of even what happened
today.

CHRISTOPHER
It wasn’t... but people are believing
in it now, and that’s how it was able
to create the miracles.

ANGELICA
...And you have doubts that you can
stop this now?

Christopher looks down at the ground with FEAR in his eyes.
CHRISTOPHER
...Yes.

Angelica thinks, while still staring at Christopher.

ANGELICA
Tell me... why were you chosen to be
sent here and stop this?

CHRISTOPHER
Out of all the angels, why was I
chosen? ...I don’t know... I really
don’t.

ANGELICA
Well... I do. It’s because you can do
this. I know you can. I know that
because you got through to me, and if
you could just get your voice out
there, you would get through to the
world too.

Christopher SMILES SOFTLY.

CHRISTOPHER
You really think so?

ANGELICA
Yes... I believe in you.

ANGELICA SMILES.

ANGELICA
(softly)
You got through to someone else too.
Ed from the Ed and George show
believes in what you said, and wants
to have an interview with you... A lot
of people watch that show all over the
country. They shoot it right here, and
I bet if you called in when they ask
for viewer comments on the show
tomorrow, they would give you some air
time.

CHRISTOPHER
That’s not enough though. I need to
get to more people than just those
who watch that show in this country.

ANGELICA
Well it’s a start...

Angelica puts her arms around Christopher, and looks at him
affectionately.

ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Right?

Christopher looks over at her.

CHRISTOPHER
...Yea, you’re right.
