FADE IN:
EXT. CITY HORIZON - TWILIGHT
AN ENORMOUS MASS OF ENERGY over a city. It is an eerie sight
of something that does not belong. It resembles a BLACK
HOLE, a vacuum of BLOOD-RED energy that dwarfs the heavenly
beauty of the orange sunset in the distance, and the purple
clouds of the horizon above it.
The words of a priest, spoken softly:
PRIEST (O.C.)
This from Isaiah 24 in The Old
Testament.
CUT TO:
INT. CHURCH - MORNING
A LARGE CATHOLIC CHURCH on a bright, clear, SUNDAY Morning.
There are many people seated, but they are scattered, and it
appears that only HALF of its maximum capacity is filled.
The people seated are mostly OLDER FAMILIES with young
children, and SENIOR CITIZENS.
There is one YOUNGER WOMAN in her early twenties seated near
the isle, in a pew close to the priest. She is a BEAUTIFUL
GIRL. HER SKIN is light in complexion, and smooth like
porcelain. HER HAIR, a shoulder length, light brown that
shines like gold from the light in the church. HER EYES have
a glow, and HER FACE has a look of purity and innocence.
Although she is trying not to, she is WEEPING. Tears slowly
fall down her fair cheeks.
A priest by the name of FATHER JACOB stands in front of a
podium, and begins to read the passage from a GOLD BIBLE in
his hands.
He is an OLDER, extremely thin man dressed in an expensive
looking outfit with gold accents, and a large matching
headdress. His face is EMOTIONLESS and washed with age. HIS
VOICE is loud and FULL OF AUTHORITY, yet has an absolute
ABSENCE OF PASSION.
FATHER JACOB
The lord is going to devastate the
earth and leave it desolate. He will
twist the earth’s surface and scatter
FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
its people. Everyone will meet the
same fate, the priests and the people,
slaves and masters, buyers and sellers,
lenders and borrowers, rich and poor.
While father Jacob is reading from the bible, the LARGE
DOORS of the church slowly open, almost silently.
A MAN enters carefully through them as if he were trying not
to be noticed.
He is a tall man in his mid twenties, DRESSED COMPLETELY IN
BLACK, including a long black trench coat. HIS HAIR matches
his attire, in that it is also black as night, and seems to
be heavily gelled. It is short, except for TWO LONG STRANDS
of hair that extend over his right eye and past his jaw. HIS
COMPLEXION is in contrast to his hair, in that he is
slightly pail. HE HAS A HANDSOME FACE, and although his
appearance might inspire fear HIS EYES show goodness and
peace within him.
Father Jacob takes notice of the man entering the church,
shoots A DISAPPROVING GLANCE, then continues reading.
FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
The earth will lie shattered and
ruined. The Lord has spoken, and it
will be done. The earth dries up and
withers. The whole world grows weak;
both earth and sky decay. The people
have defiled the earth by breaking
God’s laws, and by violating the
covenant he made to last forever. So
God has pronounced a curse on the
earth. Its people will pay for what
they have done.
THE MAN walks slowly down the center isle, and takes an isle
seat next to a YOUNG BOY.
The boy looks at the man sitting next to him with FEAR.
The man SMILES at the boy, and the fear on his face
disappears. THE BOY SMILES BACK as if he were suddenly at
peace.
The man then turns his gaze to the priest, loses his smile,
and leans back in the pew as if relaxing and waiting for
something.
Father Jacob finishes reading, slowly closes his bible, and
rests it on the podium.
FATHER JACOB
These are the words of our Lord... The
light in the sky... I think everyone
in this church has seen the light in
the sky this Friday. And from the news
it appears that everyone in the world
did as well... It appeared in the same
spot on the horizon, at the same time,
no matter what country you were in, or
what spot on the earth you stood. No
one is sure what it was, but some have
gone as far to say it was a miracle...
Father Jacob pauses, and looks over the church for a moment.
FATHER JACOB (CONT’D)
I think it was.. but I think it was a
miracle of a different kind. I think
it may be a sign, something to warn
us... The Lord was angry in that
passage from the Bible. Angry at a
society that did not worship him, and
instead in their selfishness gave into
their desires, against his wishes... I
look at this church today, and I see
it half full. Twenty years ago that
would never have been. I think God
would be angry at this. That once
again people are choosing not to
worship, and participate in church
like they should.
The man in black’s eyes, burn with passion.
With a smile he INTERRUPTS LOUDLY.
MAN
And what do you know of God?
EVERYONE IN THE CHURCH turns to look at the man.
The beautiful woman in the front is also startled. Her tears
stop for a moment, and she turns to look.
MAN (CONT’D)
You who look at religion and faith as
if it were a business. Merely a way to
MAN (CONT’D)
gain power and money.
FATHER JACOB
Excuse me?!
The man slowly rises from his seat. HE SPEAKS CALMLY. His
voice soothes even in his seriousness.
MAN
Do you deny my words?
FATHER JACOB
(furious)
How dare you sir, come into this
church, and scorn a man of God! What
is your name?!
The man moves into the isle, and BEGINS TO WALK SLOWLY
TOWARD FATHER JACOB.
MAN
My name is Christopher... And how dare
YOU. ..You who stand up there, and
tell others how they should live their
lives. Someone who has never been
married, or ever known true love from
another living person.
CHRISTOPHER’S EYES BEGIN TO GLOW BLUE as he nears Father
Jacob.
A LARGE MIDDLE-AGED MAN with gray hair is sitting with his
family in the front pew. The man grows visually annoyed at
the situation.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
YOU who have the nerve to stand here,
and talk about God and what he wants
for this world as if you knew him. You
don’t even remember God.
FATHER JACOB IS AWED AND SCARED BY CHRISTOPHER’S EYES. He
begins to step back from the podium.
FATHER JACOB
(with a weary voice)
...What are you?
CHRISTOPHER
You’d think being “a man of God” you’d
know one when you saw one... I’m an
angel.
Father Jacob’s jaw drops.
He FALLS BACK into a sitting position on the floor,
PARALYZED WITH FEAR.
Christopher has his back to everyone seated in the church.
They did not see his eyes.
THE MAN IN THE FRONT PEW speaks out with a SOUTHERN ACCENT.
SOUTHERN MAN
All right, that is enough! I do not
need to sit here, and watch some crazy
freak make a scene and talk badly
about the leader of my church.
Christopher’s EYES RETURN TO NORMAL, and he turns around
slowly to face the people.
He stands in front of the podium.
CHRISTOPHER
(calmly)
I’m not here to make a scene. I’m here
to ask a question, and I will go before
I hear the answer to leave you all in
peace. I ask...
Christopher pauses, and looks over the people in the church,
but does not see the young women near him.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
If you believe that God is love and
that he loves all of you, do you
really believe in your heart that this
man behind me represents that love,
and that he is the person to help
guide you through this life?
THE PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH STARE AT CHRISTOPHER. Their
expressions give a glimpse into their minds. Some stare
BLANKLY, some seem to be giving his question THOUGHT, yet
others appear ANGRY at the interruption.
The southern man is still outraged.
SOUTHERN MAN
Was that your question?
CHRISTOPHER
Yes.
SOUTHERN MAN
Good, then you can leave now!
CHRISTOPHER
...I am.
Christopher begins to leave the church, and finally NOTICES
THE WOMAN sitting near him.
HE LOOKS AT HER LIKE A MOTHER SEEING HER NEWBORN CHILD FOR
THE FIRST TIME.
She stares at him. SHE RECOGNIZES HIM FROM SOMEWHERE.
Christopher smiles at the woman, peacefully.
CHRISTOPHER
Hi... Don’t you know you’re beautiful?
THE WOMAN’S EYES OPEN WIDE with the comment.
Christopher continues to walk slowly toward the door from
which he entered.
He opens it, and exits.
THE WOMAN, still in a state of shock, walks quickly after
the man.
She reaches the door soon after him.
When she opens it to see where he went, he is nowhere to be
found. HE HAS VANISHED.
CUT TO:
INT. FATHER JACOB’S BEDROOM - NIGHT
THE DARKNESS IS BROKEN by a match being struck, and a candle
lit by the shaking hands of Father Jacob.
He sits on his bed as he blows the match out, and shakes it.
Through his BEDROOM WINDOW, the view of a MOONLIT, STAR
FILLED sky is visible.
Father Jacob takes a moment to gaze out of his window from
his bed, and EXHALES HEAVILY.
He turns around, and is STARTLED by the presence of
CHRISTOPHER standing in A DARK CORNER.
A WAVE OF FEAR comes over his face.
FATHER JACOB
What are you doing here!?
CHRISTOPHER
(calmly)
I’m here for you Father Jacob.
FATHER JACOB
Are you the angel of death?
Christopher smiles for a moment.
CHRISTOPHER
No, I’m not here to take your life.
I’m here to give you something.
FATHER JACOB
(inquisitively)
...What?
CHRISTOPHER
A gift.
Christopher WALKS SLOWLY over to AN OLD CHAIR opposite
father Jacob’s bed, and quietly has a seat.
CHRISTOPHER
I know you’ve been having urges to do
something terrible.
FATHER JACOB
What terrible thing?
CHRISTOPHER
Something you’ve been fighting quite
well for some time... I think you know
what I’m talking about.
Father Jacob has a LOOK OF TERROR come over his face.
FATHER JACOB
...How do you know?
CHRISTOPHER
I know many things.
FATHER JACOB
Have you come to punish me? You can’t
punish me for something I haven’t
done!
CHRISTOPHER
You would have... Do you have any idea
what something like that would do to a
child?
THE FEAR on Father Jacob’s face grows.
Christopher SMILES at him.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Do not worry, I’m not here to punish
you. Like I said, I’m here to give you
a gift.
Father Jacob’s fear begins to disappear.
FATHER JACOB
...What gift?
CHRISTOPHER
The gift of realization for one’s
actions... On this evening after you
fall asleep, you will have a dream. In
that dream you will see yourself, but
you will not be yourself. You will be
that of a boy. And as that boy you
will experience everything a young
child would experience, if you would
decide to act upon your inner desires.
This will be like no other dream. For
you, it will be real until you wake up
the next morning.
Father Jacob once again has a LOOK OF DREAD come over him.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
After you wake up, I will do no more.
What you choose to do with your life is
your own.
FATHER JACOB’S FEAR OF HIMSELF GROWS, and it is reflected in
his face.
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Now... have a good sleep Father
Jacob.
A LARGE WOODEN CLOCK in the room STARTLES Father Jacob as it
CHIMES ONCE for the new hour.
Father Jacob quickly glances at it.
When he looks back, he finds that CHRISTOPHER HAS VANISHED.
Father Jacob looks back at the clock, and STARES at it for a
moment.
THE DIAL on the clock reads 10:00.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. FATHER JACOB’S BEDROOM - NIGHT - LATER
THE DIAL in the clock now reads 11:15.
Father Jacob is lying in his bed, STILL STARING at the
clock. He appears to be in ABSOLUTE HORROR, SWEATING, and
breathing erratically as he CLUTCHES HIS BLANKET in his
hands. He FIGHTS off the urge to sleep with all his might.
Against his will, his eyes slowly close, and he DRIFTS OFF
TO SLEEP
CUT TO:
EXT. CITY BLOCK - NIGHT
THE SOUND of a woman walking in high heels.
It is THE YOUNG WOMAN FROM THE CHURCH, walking down a dark
ally. She LOOKS NERVOUS as she walks.
OTHER FOOTSTEPS beside her own can be heard.
She NOTICES THE SOUND behind her, and a WAVE OF FEAR comes
over her.
She STOPS as if she were PARALYZED WITH FEAR.
A DARK FIGURE from behind her moves closer.
As he nears, the FEAR on her face FADES. She closes her
eyes, and lets out a slow breath as if she were in a MOMENT
OF PASSION.
THE FIGURE passes her on her left, and turns around. She
opens her eyes slowly, and SMILES with the realization it is
CHRISTOPHER.
He always looks at her with a SMILE IN HIS EYES as if she
were the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.
CHRISTOPHER
Hi.
WOMAN
...Hi. You’re from the church...
Christopher right?
CHRISTOPHER
(with a smile)
Yes.
WOMAN
I was hoping I would see you again.
That was quite a display you put on in
there.
CHRISTOPHER
Well thank you... What is your name?
WOMAN
It’s Angelica.
CHRISTOPHER
That’s a fitting name, wonderful to
meet you... but why did you say you
wanted to meet me again?
ANGELICA
Because of what you said?
CHRISTOPHER
What, about Father Jacob?
ANGELICA
...No. You said you were an angel.
CHRISTOPHER
...Oh... Do you believe me?
ANGELICA
(quickly with a smile)
No.
CHRISTOPHER
Well that’s a shame... because I am.
ANGELICA
Well you certainly don’t look like
one...
Angelica stares at Christopher inquisitively for a moment.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Prove it then.
Christopher looks at Angelica for a moment, then up at the
sky, looking for something.
He looks back at Angelica.
CHRISTOPHER
Close your eyes, and give me your
hands.
Angelica stares at Christopher some more.
Christopher LOOKS DEEPLY into Angelica’s eyes.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Do you trust me?
Angelica slowly CLOSES HER EYES AND EXTENDS HER HANDS.
Christopher TAKES THEM GENTLY.
CUT TO:
EXT. SKY - AFTERNOON
The two stand on a SEA OF CLOUDS on a sunny summer day.
Angelica opens her eyes slowly, she STARES IN AWE.
CHRISTOPHER is now wearing a WHITE ROBE, and has BLONDE
HAIR. TWO ENORMOUS WINGS protrude from his back, and he
smiles as he STRETCHES them out.
CUT TO:
EXT. CITY BLOCK - NIGHT
Angelica opens her eyes quickly, and GASPS.
ANGELICA
(withdrawing her hands slowly)
Oh my God... You are an angel... Is
that what you really look like?
CHRISTOPHER LAUGHS.
CHRISTOPHER
No. I just showed you what you wanted
to see.
Christopher looks down at himself.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
This look fits me much better.
ANGELICA
Why are you here?
CHRISTOPHER
I’m here to stop something terrible...
and I’m here for you.
ANGELICA
(Shocked)
You’re here for me?
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Yes.
ANGELICA
Well if that were true, how come you
didn’t know my name?
CHRISTOPHER
(still smiling)
Your last name is Iris.. Angelica
Iris... It’s a very pretty name.
Angelica STARES, BEWILDERED.
ANGELICA
...Thank you.
CHRISTOPHER
Where were you walking to?
ANGELICA
Umm... I was going to one of the bars.
CHRISTOPHER
Well don’t let me keep you, lets
go.
Christopher begins to walk off.
ANGELICA STARES, then follows quickly to catch up, and they
continue to walk together.
CUT TO:
EXT. DOWNTOWN - NIGHT
The two walk down a sidewalk in a BUSY DOWNTOWN area.
PEOPLE EVERYWHERE
A STRAY DOG in the distance stares at Christopher, wagging
its tail slowly.
ANGELICA
So, are you from heaven?
CHRISTOPHER
...You could say that, but then we all
are. It’s just that most people are born
into this world.
ANGELICA
Then how did you get here?
Christopher thinks for a moment.
CHRISTOPHER
I was sent here. So whereas a person
being born into this world would lose
their memory of their existence before
then... I remember some. And where a
person loses all their spiritual
powers in this physical world... I
retain some.
ANGELICA HANGS ON EVERY WORD spoken by Christopher.
ANGELICA
What is it like being an angel?
Christopher looks at Angelica for a moment.
CHRISTOPHER
The same as being you.
Christopher SMILES.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Most people don’t realize that humans
and angels are the same thing. We’re
just people with a lot of love to give.
CHRISTOPHER PAUSES for a moment.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...You could be an angel.
ANGELICA
Get out!
Christopher smiles.
CHRISTOPHER
Well think about it... What are
angels?
ANGELICA
...Well they’re beings who protect
and help people, right?
CHRISTOPHER
Right, so.. what if when you die, you
change form but you yourself don’t
change. Your personality, how you feel
about people, and even how you look is
the same, but translated into
something else, something... not
physical.
ANGELICA’S EYES OPEN WIDE.
ANGELICA
...Is that how it is?
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Maybe.
ANGELICA
Come on!
CHRISTOPHER LAUGHS.
CHRISTOPHER
It really doesn’t matter, but think
about it though. If that were true,
and you really loved someone... like a
family member for example, and you
passed away. Would you try to help
them if you could?
ANGELICA
...Yes.
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
Then maybe you’re an angel.
ANGELICA
Well... I don’t know about that.
CHRISTOPHER
You’ll see.
The two are now very close to A BAR.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Is this the bar you were going to?
ANGELICA
Yea.
CHRISTOPHER
Well let’s go inside.
CUT TO:
INT. BAR - NIGHT
INSIDE the small, smoky, crowded bar, MANY PEOPLE STARE at
Christopher.
The two make it to the bar, and they have a seat next to
each other near a TV that has a FOOTBALL GAME tuned in.
THE BAR TENDER comes over.
BAR TENDER
What can I get you?
ANGELICA
I’ll have a beer.
ANGELICA
(to Christopher)
Do you want anything... Or do you even
need to eat and drink?
CHRISTOPHER
(to the bar tender)
I’ll just have a ginger ale.
BAR TENDER
Sure.
CHRISTOPHER
(to Angelica)
I can if I want... but I don’t have
to.
The bar tender fills one glass with beer, and places it in
front of Angelica, then does the same for Christopher’s
ginger ale.
ANGELICA
So angels don’t drink alcohol huh?
CHRISTOPHER STARES IN THOUGHT at the glass in front of
Angelica for a moment.
CUT TO:
INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
A DRUNK MAN smashes a glass on the floor. HIS WIFE stands
nearby.
MAN
(to his wife)
YOU DUMB BITCH!
He goes to HIT HER.
His YOUNG SON, who is also in the room, WINCES with the
sound of slaps and his mother YELLING.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
A DRUNK DRIVER passes out at the wheel, runs through a red
light at an intersection, and SIDE RAMS ANOTHER CAR, KILLING
the other driver violently.
CUT TO:
EXT. BAR - NIGHT
A MAN VOMITS on the sidewalk outside of a bar.
CUT TO:
INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
At a party TWO DRUNK TEENS are sitting next to each other on
a couch, one a scary looking male, the other a female.
TEEN GUY
(to girl)
Come on baby.
He puts his arm around the girl, and begins to kiss her. SHE
RELUCTANTLY GIVES IN and starts kissing him back.
CUT TO:
INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT
A BOTTLE OF SCOTCH rests on the bathroom sink.
A MAN with a RAZOR in his hand, looks at himself drunk in
the mirror, CRYING.
He goes to SLASH at his wrist.
CUT TO:
INT. BAR - NIGHT
Christopher snaps back to reality.
CHRISTOPHER
...No, I’ve seen too many people
destroy their lives with it to ever
take another drink.
Angelica looks at Christopher oddly.
ANGELICA
...OK.
Angelica TAKES A SIP from her beer.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
So tell me, does everyone have an
angel watching over them?
CHRISTOPHER
Yes.
ANGELICA
And how does an angel help the person
they’re protecting?
Christopher sips from his ginger ale.
CHRISTOPHER
Well just because they’re not in this
world, doesn’t mean they can’t see
you... and that you can’t feel them...
They talk to you, you know.
Angelica finishes taking a sip from her beer.
ANGELICA
...They talk to me?
CHRISTOPHER
Well it’s subliminal. You don’t hear
it, but your subconscious does.
Christopher pauses in thought.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Ever go to do something, and for no
reason you had an overwhelming urge
not to... an urge so powerful it
actually stopped you from doing what
you were going to do?
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Angelica sits across from her friend LISA at a SMALL TABLE
in a CHEAP and UNCLEAN looking restaurant.
LISA is a young AVERAGE looking girl in her twenties, with
her brown hair up in a PONYTAIL.
ANGELICA
So Lisa, what are you getting?
LISA
I don’t know. I think I’ll get a
burger or something.
ANGELICA
Sounds good, maybe I’ll get that too.
A YOUNG MALE waiter walks over, wearing DIRTY CASUAL cloths.
YOUNG WAITER
What can I get you?
LISA
I’ll just have a hamburger and a coke.
YOUNG WAITER
(to Angelica)
And you?
ANGELICA
I’ll probably get a cheese...
Angelica stops for apparently no reason.
The waiter STARES.
ANGELICA
Umm, you know what. I’ll have a
grilled cheese sandwich and a glass
of water.
YOUNG WAITER
OK.
The waiter walks off.
LISA
Decided to change your mind?
ANGELICA
Yea I don’t know... I just didn’t feel
like a cheeseburger all of a sudden.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. RESTAURANT BATHROOM - NIGHT
Angelica waits outside of a closed BATHROOM STALL.
ANGELICA
(worried)
Are you sure you’re OK?
LISA can be heard VOMITING in the stall.
LISA
Oh God! It must have been that damn
hamburger!
CUT TO:
INT. BAR - NIGHT
ANGELICA
...Yea... all the time.
CHRISTOPHER
Well maybe that’s an angel whispering
in your ear...
CHRISTOPHER LEANS OVER AND WHISPERS into Angelica’s ear.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Don’t do that.
CHRISTOPHER LEANS BACK, and SMILES.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
And vice versa as well. They will try
to guide you to where you need to go,
and away from where you don’t.
ANGELICA
This is mind blowing.
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
I know it’s a lot. You don’t have to
believe it if you don’t want to...
Christopher pauses.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
This whole thing feels natural for you
though, doesn’t it?
ANGELICA
...Yes it does. Why is that?
CHRISTOPHER
You’ll see.
Angelica and Christopher take a sip from their drinks.
A brief moment of silence.
ANGELICA
I have to admit, I’m having fun asking
all these questions.
CHRISTOPHER
Ask all you want.
ANGELICA
...Like... if angels are people, do
angels come back to Earth often to
live?
CHRISTOPHER
Yep, we always come back because
there’s always more to learn and
experience.
Christopher pauses, and THINKS
HE LOOKS DOWN with almost a SADNESS on his face.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
The more you learn though, the harder
it is to come back.
ANGELICA
(with intrigue)
...Why is that?
CHRISTOPHER
Because people unfortunately can be
unforgiving... When angels come here
they’re beautiful. They’re just
selfless, loving people, and... they
just don’t get treated right. They
wind up leaving worse off than before
they came.
Christopher pauses.
ANGELICA LISTENS IN THOUGHT.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...I’ve heard some horror stories...
(changing the subject)
Are there any other things that come
to mind, you want to know?
ANGELICA
(thinking)
Umm... Can angels fall in love?
CHRISTOPHER
(laughing)
Yes. We’re the same remember?...
You’ll find someday though, that you
can fall in love with anyone. Although
if you’re lucky, you’ll meet a choice
few whom you’d never want to be
without.
ANGELICA
Have you ever fallen in that kind of a
love?
CHRISTOPHER looks at Angelica for a moment. SOMETHING
EMOTIONAL BREWS behind his eyes, then THE LOOK VANISHES from
his face as if he willed it away.
CHRISTOPHER
There are a few people I really love.
They’ve been with me forever, and
we’ve grown together over time instead
of apart. They helped to send me here,
and I know they’re with me, because I
can feel them... They’ll be my support
while I’m here.
Christopher pauses.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
(softly)
...Not all of them are over there
though.
THE FOOTBALL GAME ON THE TV IS INTERRUPTED with a message
from an anchorman.
ANCHORMAN (O.C.)
We interrupt this game for a special
ANCHORMAN (CONT’D)
news update.
ANGELICA
And why are you here?
CHRISTOPHER TAKES NOTICE OF THE TV, and slowly looks over at
it.
The Anchorman sits at a news desk on the screen.
ANCHORMAN
We bring you to Greta Salstrom who is
live at the White House, where
apparently a huge mass of energy has
appeared in the sky... Greta?
THE TV SWITCHES TO A LIVE SHOT of a female reporter standing
in front of what appears to be a ENORMOUS WHITE SPHERE OF
ENERGY, high up in the sky. The BRIGHTNESS IS SO GREAT that
the news camera loses it’s focus frequently, and lowers
contrast to compensate.
THE WIND WHIPS around her as she speaks. She seems to have
TROUBLE KEEPING HER FOOTING because of it.
CHRISTOPHER (O.C.)
...That’s why.
GRETA
Thank you Bob. I’m sure you can see
what appears to be a sphere behind me.
It appeared over the White House about
an hour ago. Now this is different
from the previous sighting on Friday
both visually, and from what we know.
So far this is its only appearance,
whereas the lights sighted last Friday
could be seen anywhere, all over the
world.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WHITE HOUSE LAWN - NIGHT
GRETA
Many people have gathered over the
past hour to witness this, however,
our sources have confirmed that the
president has been evacu...
GRETA IS INTERRUPTED BY A BOOMING VOICE coming from the
sphere. It is a POWERFUL FEMALE VOICE, filled with ENERGY,
and STRENGTH. It DWARFS ALL OTHER SOUNDS, including the
whipping of the wind.
VOICE
Heed the word of God, for I am it’s
messenger!
Greta quickly looks behind her at the voice.
The news camera centers on the sphere.
VOICE
Know that God is furious at humanity!
You have proven to be a race of
cruelty, and sin! You’re
ungratefulness does not come without
consequence! If you do not give up
your sinful ways as a whole by Sunday
of this week coming, you bring upon
yourself the apocalypse! To ensure
that all of humanity knows that this
will be so, the world will experience
three miracles! On Wednesday,
something that you value more than God
will burn, on Thursday it will rain
for one hour, and on Friday time will
stop until it is Saturday! On Sunday I
will return, and I will bring God’s
judgment as to whether or not the
human race deserves the gift of life
on this world!
With that the VORTEX QUICKLY DISAPPEARS.
ALL IS QUIET.
Greta slowly turns back toward the news camera.
She looks WEAK, and SWEATS, as she STRUGGLES TO REGAIN HER
COMPOSURE.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. BAR - NIGHT
ON THE TV.
GRETA
...Well you saw it here first. A voice
from the light, warning humanity of a
coming apocalypse and prophesying
three miracles... This is unbelievable.
...I think it’s time to go back to you
Bob.
CHRISTOPHER AND ANGELICA STARE at the TV, CHRISTOPHER WITH
ANGER, and ANGELICA WITH AWE.
ANCHORMAN
(flustered)
This IS truly unbelievable... Umm
Stick with us as we continue to cover
this story. As always, you will see it
here first...
Before the camera cuts back to the football game the
anchorman turns toward someone off camera on his left.
ANCHORMAN
(in absolute shock)
Jesus Christ!...
The TV cuts back to the FOOTBALL GAME.
ANGELICA
(in shock)
...Oh my God.
Angelica looks at Christopher, who also turns to look at
her.
IN THE BACKGROUND, COMMOTION BEGINS in the bar.
NOISE
People begin to TALK LOUDLY amongst themselves.
ANGELICA
Is this true?
OLDER MAN (O.C.)
Ho-ly shit!
CHRISTOPHER
It’s OK, finish your drink.
YOUNGER MAN (O.C.)
Did you hear that!?.. The Apocalypse!
ANGELICA
I’d really rather not.
CHRISTOPHER
Well, would you like to go?
ANGELICA
Yea... I think so.
CHRISTOPHER
Can I walk you home? I can explain on
the way.
ANGELICA
If you’d like.
CUT TO:
EXT. CITY BLOCK - NIGHT
Christopher and Angelica WALK down a city block in a POOR
NEIGHBORHOOD.
ANGELICA still has a TROUBLED LOOK on her face.
ANGELICA
So what was that?
CHRISTOPHER
...I don’t know.
ANGELICA
What do you mean, you don’t know?
Didn’t you say that’s why you’re here?
CHRISTOPHER
I lost a lot of my memory from coming
here, but not all of it. I know I’m
here to stop whatever that was, but I
don’t know how, or what is even causing
it.
ANGELICA
Could it really be God’s Message?
CHRISTOPHER
(sternly)
No.
Christopher pauses as he walks.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
It’s something else, and I’ll find out
what it is soon enough.
CHRISTOPHER PAUSES again, and his EXPRESSION CHANGES.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
That’s not the only reason I’m here
either. I wanted to ask you something.
Angelica loses her look of worry.
ANGELICA
...What?
CHRISTOPHER
Why were you in that church today, and
why were you crying?
Angelica pauses in thought.
ANGELICA
...I was there seeking redemption, and
I was crying because I wanted so much
to be forgiven.
CHRISTOPHER
Forgiven for what?
ANGELICA
For choices, and for what I’ve done
with my life... I must have done
something wrong.
CHRISTOPHER
(with compassion)
What could you have done that could be
so bad?
ANGELICA
I’ve been doing lots of stuff. My
mother kicked me out of the house
because she couldn’t take me anymore,
and I’m living with a bunch of friends
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
over in that building over there.
She points to AN OLD APARTMENT BUILDING a block or so down
the street.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
...As pathetic as that may sound at my
age.
She pauses.
Christopher listens intently to Angelica as she speaks.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
And that’s the way my whole life’s
been. Just... nothing. I don’t have a
job, but I always need money, so I get
it any way I can. And I mean ANY way.
I never thought life would be so hard
just to survive...
Angelica pauses again in thought.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Sometimes I don’t even know why I
survive. No one cares about me, and
maybe there’s a reason for it.
Sometimes life feels so... pointless,
I just wish I would die... I don’t
think it would matter either way.
ANGELICA LOOKS DOWN at the ground.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
(softly)
Maybe I’m just a failure, and not
worth it.
CHRISTOPHER has a look of SHOCK AND PAIN on his face.
CHRISTOPHER
(loudly)
Don’t ever say that.
ANGELICA
Why?
CHRISTOPHER STOPS ANGELICA from walking any further. The two
are now near the apartment building.
CHRISTOPHER
Because it’s not true, any of it. It
does matter that you’re here, believe
me, and... it’s not true that no one
cares about you.
ANGELICA
It’s not?
CHRISTOPHER looks into Angelica’s eyes. He seems to be
holding back an EXTREME LEVEL OF EMOTION.
CHRISTOPHER
No... You have no idea.
CHRISTOPHER quickly REMOVES ANY EMOTION from his expression.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
I know life has been hard for you,
almost to the point where it feels
like it’s not worth it anymore.
CHRISTOPHER looks at Angelica, and SMILES.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
But maybe things will change soon, and
you’ll find something that makes it
all worth while.
ANGELICA looks into Christopher’s eyes, and BEGINS TO SMILE
as well.
ANGELICA
Maybe you’re right.
CHRISTOPHER SLIDES HIS HAND GENTLY OVER ANGELICA’S ARM, and
finishes by holding her hand.
CHRISTOPHER
...I enjoyed talking to you tonight.
ANGELICA
You enjoyed it? It’s not every day I
get to talk to an angel.
CHRISTOPHER
(smiling)
It’s not everyday I get to talk to you.
...Have a good night Angelica, I’ll see
you tomorrow.
ANGELICA
...You will?
CHRISTOPHER
Of course.
ANGELICA
...How will I find you?
Christopher smiles, and LETS GO of her hand.
CHRISTOPHER
Don’t worry. I’ll find you.
ANGELICA LOOKS DOWN briefly to get out her keys.
When she looks up, CHRISTOPHER IS GONE.
She pauses, then BEGINS TO SMILE as she opens the door to
her apartment building, and enters.
CUT TO:
INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
ANGELICA enters her APARTMENT. It is LARGE, but DIRTY and
RUN DOWN.
FOUR PEOPLE in their early, to mid twenties are scattered
about in the living and attached kitchen area.
STEVE sits on the couch in front of a SMALL TV, smoking a
joint. He’s a YOUNG GUY with an AVERAGE BUILD, and SHORT
HAIR.
LISA sits on the floor off to the side.
An EXTREMELY THIN GUY with STRINGY, SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR is
in the back. He looks SPACED OUT, and he occasionally loses
his footing while he stands.
The last guy named JOSH is in the connected kitchen, LOOKING
THROUGH THE REFRIGERATOR. He is FAIRLY MUSCULAR, with SHORT
HAIR.
Angelica tries to walk by without anyone noticing her, but
STEVE sees her.
STEVE
Hey Angelica, want a hit?
Angelica thinks for a second, then SMILES.
ANGELICA
Nah Steve, that’s OK. I’m tired. I’m
just going to go to bed.
Steve seems a little shocked, but doesn’t really care.
STEVE
...OK.
CUT TO:
INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT
It is a VERY SMALL BEDROOM, with a LARGE WINDOW that has NO
CURTAINS. THE BED IS QUITE OLD AND WORN.
Angelica climbs in bed for the evening.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. HORIZON - MORNING
The moon sets and the sun rises, to mark the beginning of
MONDAY.
CUT TO:
INT. FATHER JACOB’S BEDROOM - MORNING
FATHER JACOB SLEEPS on his back in his bed. The sunlight
from the small window fills the room.
Father Jacob’s face reveals that he seems to be SLEEPING
PEACEFULLY.
HIS EYES open quickly in ABSOLUTE HORROR.
He quickly SITS UP IN HIS BED with a YELL.
He begins CRYING LOUDLY. LIKE A SMALL CHILD he covers his
face with his hands.
He ROLLS OVER to his right side, still clutching his face,
and FALLS OFF THE BED.
FATHER JACOB goes into a FETAL POSITION ON THE FLOOR, CRYING
LOUDLY while covering his face.
CUT TO:
INT. ANGELICA’S BEDROOM - MORNING
SMALL DUST PARTICLES dance in the air, lit up by the morning
SUNLIGHT pouring in from the large window.
ANGELICA PEACEFULLY SLEEPS on her back.
Her eyes open slowly.
A SMILE COMES ACROSS HER FACE.
CUT TO:
INT. ANGELICA’S LIVING ROOM - MORNING
ANGELICA ENTERS the living area FULLY DRESSED in an old pair
of BLACK RUNNING PANTS, AND MATCHING WIND BREAKER.
She begins to walk toward the front door.
The guy with stringy hair IS PASSED OUT on the couch.
STEVE is sitting at A SMALL BREAKFAST TABLE in the kitchen,
EATING CEREAL out of a bowl.
STEVE
Hey Angelica, where ya going?
ANGELICA
I’m just going for a walk.. It’s
a beautiful day.
STEVE
You sure you don’t want some
breakfast, or a beer or something?
ANGELICA
No I’m all set. I just feel like
going out, and enjoying the morning.
STEVE LOOKS AT ANGELICA ODDLY as she exits through the front
door.
CUT TO:
EXT. CITY BLOCK - MORNING
ANGELICA EXITS through the door of her apartment building.
HER EYES CLOSE AS THE WARM SUN HITS HER FACE.
She lets the door close behind her as she looks up at the
sun with her eyes still closed.
She SMILES PEACEFULLY while she takes a long breath.
She looks forward, and OPENS HER EYES slowly. They SPARKLE
in the morning sunlight.
She has a HAPPY EXPRESSION as she begins her morning walk.
A SMALL BIRD flies overhead. ANGELICA FOLLOWS IT with her
eyes.
It LANDS IN A NEARBY TREE, and begins to SING with the other
birds. THE MELODY CONSUMES.
She continues to walk.
A GENTLE BREEZE begins to blow, the wind seems to massage
her face as she walks.
TWO LOVERS standing in front of an old car, PEER INTO EACH
OTHERS EYES, feeling each others arms and chest.
THEY KISS.
A YOUNG BOY smiles at Angelica as he RIDES BY ON HIS BIKE.
Angelica walks some more IN DEEP THOUGHT.
The voice of A SMALL CHILD in the background.
CHILD (O.C.)
Look mommy, I can blow bubbles with my
gum!
ANGELICA LOOKS in the direction of the voice to reveal a
SMALL GIRL standing next to her mother, BLOWING A PINK
BUBBLE from her mouth. It pops, and HER MOTHER GIVES HER A
KISS ON HER HEAD softly.
MOTHER
Good sweetie!
Angelica smiles again, and drifts back into thought as she
continues to walk.
HER SMILE DISAPPEARS, and a TROUBLED EXPRESSION takes its
place.
The gentle breeze continues as she looks at the BEAUTIFUL
BLUE SKY. The sunlight illuminating the FLUFFY WHITE CLOUDS.
TEARS begin to softly fall from her eyes.
CHRISTOPHER (O.C.)
Why are you crying?
SHE LOOKS in the direction of the voice. CHRISTOPHER is
standing right next to her.
SHE STARES for a second, STARTLED.
ANGELICA
...I was just thinking... about how
terrible it would be if everything
that voice said was true... This world
is too beautiful.
CHRISTOPHER
And that’s why I know it can’t be true
that anything would happen to it.
ANGELICA
Are you sure?
CHRISTOPHER
Yes... Whatever it is, doesn’t seem
that powerful either. Even the
miracles it described didn’t sound too
impressive. It said “something” will
burn on Wednesday. Which could mean
anything. A building could just happen
to catch fire, and people would think
it was a miracle. On Thursday it’s
gonna rain for an hour... whoopee do!
Christopher spins his pointer finger around in circles.
ANGELICA LAUGHS briefly.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
And the miracle on Friday doesn’t even
make sense. If time is going to stop,
how could we ever reach the next day?
ANGELICA SMILES.
ANGELICA
It’s true, now that I think about it.
CHRISTOPHER
I think I’m going to sit back and see
what happens over the course of this
week to see if this thing can even act
upon it’s predictions.
Christopher pauses for a second, and looks at Angelica.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...Do you have any plans today?
ANGELICA
No, why?
CHRISTOPHER
I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind
spending it with me.
Angelica thinks for a moment, then BEGINS TO SMILE.
ANGELICA
Of course, but... you already knew if
I had plans today didn’t you.
CHRISTOPHER SMILES before he answers.
CHRISTOPHER
...Maybe.
ANGELICA
Where did you want to go?
CHRISTOPHER
Well it’s morning, and you must be
hungry, so why don’t we go get some
breakfast?
CUT TO:
EXT. DINER - LATE MORNING
A BREAKFAST DINER on a Monday Morning.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. DINER - LATE MORNING
Christopher and Angelica sit across from each other in a
BOOTH next to a window in the diner.
The two eat breakfast. CHRISTOPHER has an AMERICAN CHEESE
OMELET in front of him, and ANGELICA has a small stack of
PANCAKES in front of her.
Christopher chews, while Angelica pours some more maple
syrup on her breakfast.
A YOUNG BLONDE WAITRESS is standing at the edge of the
table.
WAITRESS
How is everything?
Christopher looks up at the waitress with COMPASSION.
CHRISTOPHER
...Everything’s fine thanks.
The waitress nods, and walks off.
ANGELICA
It’s been so long since I’ve been out
for breakfast. I thought I had
forgotten what fresh pancakes taste
like.
CHRISTOPHER
Well I’m glad you’re enjoying them. I
know they’re your favorite.
Angelica smiles at Christopher, then cuts a piece of
pancake.
ANGELICA
So tell me, how do Angels know where
to guide people? ..I mean, they must
know the outcome of things before they
try to help someone right?
ANGELICA TAKES A BITE from her breakfast.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Mmmm... Oh God this is good.
Christopher smiles.
CHRISTOPHER
Umm... We use educated guesses.
CHRISTOPHER SMILES
ANGELICA
...Well that doesn’t sound very good.
CHRISTOPHER
No, I’m just kidding. It’s more than
that... We predict the future using
knowledge and logic... Like for
example if I take this piece of
butter...
CHRISTOPHER REACHES INTO A SMALL BOWL on the table, filled
with small wrapped PIECES OF BUTTER and small tubs of
margarine. He grabs one of the butters, and HOLDS IT UP
above the table.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
and I hold it like this, and let go.
What will happen?
ANGELICA
Uhh... It’s gonna fall on the table.
CHRISTOPHER
Right, so you just made a prediction
using your knowledge of gravity, but
what you didn’t know...
CHRISTOPHER DROPS THE BUTTER, but CATCHES IT with his other
hand before it can reach the table.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
was that I was planning on catching it.
But if you did, you would have been
able to predict that as well. So the
more knowledge you have, the more
accurate your predictions can be.
Kinda like... the weather.
ANGELICA
Umm... I don’t know about that either.
CHRISTOPHER
Well predicting the weather might not
be perfect, but it’s gotten a lot
better, and that’s because we know a
lot more about what causes changes in
weather, and we have technology that
can give us more accurate information.
CHRISTOPHER REPLACES THE BUTTER back in the small bowl.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
And when you’re not in the physical
world your knowledge of things is
greatly enhanced... When you love
someone and grow with them, your
knowledge of them, and how they will
react to things in life becomes almost
perfect... So they know where you’d
want to go in life, just as if they
had told you what the outcomes would
be, and asked you what you’d want to
do.
CHRISTOPHER PAUSES and NOTICES ANGELICA SMILING in
amusement.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...What?
ANGELICA
Nothing.. You just get so serious when
you try to explain things. You talk
like a teacher sometimes.
Angelica pauses.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
...A boring one.
ANGELICA’S SMILE GETS BIGGER, which seems to be CONTAGIOUS,
because Christopher soon begins to smile as well.
CHRISTOPHER
...Yea you’re right.
ANGELICA
I still can’t believe all this though.
Angelica eats another piece of pancake, while Christopher
keeps glancing over at THE WAITRESS.
Angelica notices Christopher staring.
ANGELICA
...Why do you keep looking at her?
CHRISTOPHER
(still staring)
...Because she’s troubled.
Christopher waves at the waitress, who notices, and walks
over.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
(to the waitress)
Hi.
WAITRESS
Is everything all right? Can I get you
anything?
CHRISTOPHER
...Your name is Paula right?
PAULA
Yes it is.
CHRISTOPHER
Paula, if I could give you an answer to
a question you’ve had your whole life,
would you want to hear it?
PAULA
...What?
CHRISTOPHER
What if I told you, I knew you lost a
father you loved very much at a young
age to illness, and that left you with
a question of why. You want to know
how fate could allow such a thing, if
there was a purpose for it, and where
he is now.
PAULA
What?!... How do you know all this?
CHRISTOPHER looks into Paula’s eyes, and his begin to GLOW
BLUE. THE LIGHT REFLECTS off her face.
CHRISTOPHER
Because I’m an angel.
AWE FALLS OVER PAULA’S FACE.
PAULA
Sweet Jesus... It’s true.
PAULA MAKES THE SIGN OF THE CROSS with her hands.
PAULA (CONT’D)
...Yes, please tell me.
CHRISTOPHER’S EYES RETURN TO NORMAL, and he smiles.
CHRISTOPHER
Please, sit down.
ANGELICA LOOKS AMAZED. She quickly moves over to let Paula
sit next to her.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Are you comfortable?
PAULA
Yes.
CHRISTOPHER
Good... Your father died at such a
young age because he loved you. He
knew you had a rough life ahead of you,
and it has been rough hasn’t it?
Paula seems to be in shock from the conversation.
PAULA
...Yes.
CHRISTOPHER
He knew it would be hard on you for
him to go, but the type of support you
needed to get through this life, he
couldn’t provide you here. It breaks
his heart that he’s caused you so much
pain, but he wants you to know he’s
with you everyday, and he loves you.
TEARS FALL from Paula’s eyes.
PAULA
...Are you saying he died for me?
CHRISTOPHER
...Everything happens for a reason.
Just know he wants you to be happy.
Don’t worry yourself with other
questions, because that’s all that
matters.
Christopher pauses.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...He’s touched though.
TEARS are now falling from Paula’s eyes.
PAULA
(wearily)
...By what?
CHRISTOPHER
(with compassion)
That you’ve kept him so close to your
heart for all these years, even though
it’s been so long... He really wishes
things could have been different, but
this is the only way it could be...
It’ll all end well though... He
promises.
PAULA stares CRYING.
PAULA
(through the tears)
...Thank you.
ANGELICA WATCHES the event with ABSOLUTE AMAZEMENT in her
eyes.
CUT TO:
EXT. DINER - AFTERNOON
Christopher and Angelica walk away together. PAULA watches
the two from the front door. THERE IS A TEARY PEACE IN HER
EYES as she looks on.
A man walks his GOLDEN RETRIEVER across the street, without
a leash.
ANGELICA
Well, that was amazing.
CHRISTOPHER
...It was my pleasure. I want to help
as many people as I can while I’m here.
Angelica smiles at Christopher.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
...Is there anyplace we could go to
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
just talk?
Angelica thinks.
ANGELICA
Oh I know the perfect place!
Christopher looks at Angelica with interest, then STOPS
SUDDENLY as if something had hit his legs. The two look down
at the ground.
The GOLDEN RETRIEVER stands in front of Christopher,
staring, and wagging its tail slowly.
ANGELICA
(smiling)
Aww, it’s a dog.
CHRISTOPHER
Hey pooch.
Christopher leans over, and pats the dog gently on the head.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
You should go back to your master,
before he gets worried about you.
The dog stares a little more, then RUNS OFF.
CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
(to Angelica as he gets up)
...So what place did you have in mind?
Angelica watches the dog run off.
ANGELICA
...I used to know a very rich woman a
few towns over from where I used to
live. She had a big estate, and
beautiful gardens. She used to let me
walk in them when I was little. I’m
sure she would let us use them if we
went there.
CHRISTOPHER
Sounds good. How do we get there?
ANGELICA
I usually take the train. It’s really
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
cheap. I’m sure I have enough on me
for a few tickets.
Christopher smiles.
CHRISTOPHER
Well let’s go.
CUT TO:
EXT. TRAIN - AFTERNOON
A TRAIN MOVES over the tracks, IT’S STEEL shining in the
afternoon sunlight.
CUT TO:
EXT. ESTATE - AFTERNOON
A HUGE HOUSE at the edge of a LARGE CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY. The
grounds are NOT KEPT, and the house looks RUNDOWN as if no
one has lived in it for a while.
Christopher and Angelica walk up to the front door.
ANGELICA PUSHES THE DOORBELL BUTTON, but there is NO SOUND.
The two look at each other.
ANGELICA KNOCKS on the large wooden door.
SILENCE
Angelica turns to look at Christopher.
ANGELICA
It doesn’t look like this place has
been lived in for a while. The woman
was old, she might have passed away.
ANGELICA LOOKS DOWN at the ground with SADNESS.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
She was a sweet old woman. It’s a
shame if she did.
(she looks back up)
But even still the gardens are right
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
out back. We can walk around and get
to them. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.
Christopher smiles at Angelica.
CHRISTOPHER
I’m sure she won’t.
CUT TO:
EXT. GARDEN - AFTERNOON
A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN. The garden has not been maintained for a
while, and it is OVERGROWN. The RED BRICK WALKWAYS are
starting to grow WEEDS. IVY grows over the few WHITE
STATUES, PILLARS, AND STONE ARCHWAYS. Despite this THE
FLOWERS, EXOTIC TREES, AND PLANTS are still in FULL BLOOM.
The COLORS of the various flowers and plants create a MYSTIC
ENVIRONMENT.
YELLOW POLLEN DANCES in the soft breeze, SPARKLING in the
sunlight.
Angelica and Christopher walk down one of the BRICK WALKWAYS
slowly, side by side.
ANGELICA
This place is still so beautiful. I
used to come here as a child, and just
enjoy being alone. Alone with my
thoughts... my dreams.
Angelica thinks for a second.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
Life was so simple back then, and I
had so much hope... I remember I used
to talk to myself a lot back then,
especially here. My friends always
thought I was crazy, but I was just
being me, and it helped me to think.
CHRISTOPHER
What happened to that hope?
ANGELICA
My parents separated, I grew up, and I
experienced real life. A life much
different than what I had thought of
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
as a child.
CHRISTOPHER
And what did you want life to be?
ANGELICA
I just wanted simple things. I wanted
my parents to stay together, and be
happy, so I could have that.. A family
that loved me... A home.
Angelica thinks, holding back emotion.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
But I guess that was too much to ask.
CHRISTOPHER
Is that all you wanted out of life?
ANGELICA
...I had a lot of thoughts here. I
had a thought of falling in love, and
getting married someday.. and maybe
even getting a job that would touch
people.. in a good way. Something that
would give my life meaning, knowing
that I did something good... Even
through art maybe.
Angelica pauses.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
(softly)
As if I could ever help anyone.
CHRISTOPHER
...Why would you say that?
ANGELICA
(frustrated)
Because I’ve always felt like I wanted
to help people my whole life, but I
never can. Like even with my friends,
when they’re in need... I never know
what to say, or what I can do to help.
Angelica looks around in thought.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
But even that’s a dream. That’s all
my thoughts ever were just dreams
and nothing more. I never had that
family, my life has no meaning, and no
one loves me, not even my own mother.
CHRISTOPHER slows in his walk. He looks at Angelica, and
TEARS form in his eyes.
ANGELICA notices that Christopher is no longer right beside
her, and she TURNS to look at him.
THE SADNESS VANISHES FROM CHRISTOPHER’S FACE, and he begins
to smile.
ANGELICA
...What?
CHRISTOPHER
Nothing... Tell me more about your
life.
ANGELICA
Don’t you already know?
CHRISTOPHER
Yes, but I’d like to hear about it
from you.. in your own words.
ANGELICA SMILES A LITTLE.
ANGELICA’S VOICE FADES in the distance as the two begin to
walk down a new walkway.
ANGELICA
Sure. Let’s walk this way, It’s
really beautiful down this path.
I grew up a few houses down the
road...
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. SKY - NIGHT
A SMOOTH TRANSITION from a SUNNY AFTERNOON to a BEAUTIFUL
TWILIGHT, and finally a CLEAR NIGHT with a FULL MOON and few
clouds.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON POND - NIGHT
TALL BUSHES
The FULL MOON gives everything a SOFT BLUE GLOW. It is
silent, except for the quiet CHIRPING OF CRICKETS, and a few
FROGS CROAKING. Soon THE BUSHES RUSTLE.
CHRISTOPHER (O.C.)
I can’t believe we’ve been here so
long.
ANGELICA (O.C.)
(enthusiastically)
Oh I have to show you this. Come here!
THE TWO EMERGE from the bushes, Angelica leading Christopher
by the hand.
ANGELICA (CONT’D)
This is my favorite spot.
Christopher looks around, HIS EYES light up as if he were
returning to a familiar place.
